Bobcat Leadership Seminar


Spring 2024 Registration is now open! 

2 Cohorts to choose from! 

Bobcat Leadership Seminar (BLS) is great for students interested in exploring their identities as leaders, and getting more involved in leadership at UC Merced & beyond. We welcome all students, whether you are continuing your leadership journey, or you've just begun! BLS is for everyone and consists of six (6) 2-hour sessions.

BLS will have two separate cohorts for spring 2024!

Cohort 1 will take place on Fridays: Feb. 16, Feb. 23, Mar. 1, Mar. 8, Mar. 15, Mar. 22, Granite Pass 140 from 1 PM - 3 PM.

OR

Cohort 2 will take place on Thursdays: Feb. 15, Feb. 22, Feb.29, Mar. 7, Mar. 14, Mar. 21, at Granite Pass 140 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

Attend all 6 sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

Program Structure

Workshop 1: Define Leadership & Explore Your Multiple Identities

Workshop 2: Identify your Leadership Skills, Leadership Styles, and Character Strengths

Workshop 3: Leading with Empathy and Understanding Cultural Fluency

Workshop 4: Strong Communication Skills and Self-Awareness

Workshop 5: Service is leadership in action - understand the Social Model Change

Workshop 6: Learn Strategies for Confidence & Resilience in Leadership

 

What will I do in this program?

  • In this program, you will explore your identity and your potential leadership style(s).

  • You will reflect on the following questions: "Who I am? What impact may I want to make in this world? How do I want to engage in leadership?" 

  • You will identify the specific Leadership Skills & Leadership Styles that are your strengths & the leadership skills you will work to improve while at UC Merced.

  • You will identify specific strategies that you will use to increase your Confidence & your Resilience (ability to overcome challenges). 

  • You will learn about the wide range of leadership opportunities available to you at UC Merced and beyond. 

Who should sign-up for this program?

  • This program is open to all UC Merced students. Both undergraduate & graduate students are encouraged to register! 

  • We discuss strategies and opportunities for both your time at UC Merced and after you graduate. 

What should I expect?

  • The Spring 2024 workshops will be facilitated by Andrea Tafolla,  Associate Director of Student Leadership and Community Engagement and David Gutierrez, Student Staff Lead for the Community Engagement Center.  

  • The program includes one online assessment (which should take 20 minutes) that we will ask you to complete on your own time after the last session. Once you complete the assessment, you will receive your BLS certificate. 

  • We like to create a friendly, welcoming environment. So, get comfortable, try your best to be on time, and bring your authentic selves. We know this is easier said than done, but we ask that you try your best.
