On Saturday, September 28th, the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center hosted the highly anticipated 2024 Leadership Conference, an empowering event centered around the theme "Sculpting Your Leadership Style." Designed to foster leadership development and creativity, the event brought together students and professionals from various backgrounds to explore their personal leadership journeys, gain valuable insight from one another, and engage in inspiring workshops led by their peers and staff.
To kickoff the conference, we received an empowering keynote address delivered by Dr. Gina Loring, a celebrated creative artist, educator, and advocate for marginalized youth, through a series of beautifully crafted and thought-provoking spoken word poems exemplifying the impactful significance of authenticity and staying true to the leader that you are. Dr. Loring's deliverance was then followed by the introduction of the conference's series of intentional leadership development workshops aimed to challenge attendees to think critically about their leadership styles and explore new approaches to personal growth, while offering a unique opportunity to engage with leadership in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Furthermore, the event also highlighted the artistic talents of students through the captivating performances of both Ballet Folklorico and the Yamabuki Taiko drummers, as well as an exhibition of student artwork displayed throughout the event, each piece of art conveying the personal definitions and significance of leadership, adding a creative and reflective element to the conference atmosphere.
The 2024 Leadership Conference successfully provided students with opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate the multifaceted nature of leadership through a creative lens within today’s world and we are excited to bring back many of these engaging initiatives and more during next year's 2025 Leadership Conference. Stay tuned!
