EMPOWER: Womxn's Leader Development Program | Spring 2024

EMPOWER: Womxn's Leader Development Program is a 6-week leader development program for UC Merced Students who identify as womxn. Participants will learn specific strategies for womxn in leadership roles. Participants will learn how they can advocate for themselves and others. The program was first launched in Spring 2020. Topics include: (1) Communicating with Confidence, (2) Negotiation Skills for Leaders, (3) Decision-Making Skills for Womxn in Leadership, and more.

Dates: Tuesdays: Feb. 6th, Feb. 13th, Feb. 20, Feb, 27, March 5th, and March 12th, at COB 2-392 from 6-8 PM

Participants should be available for all 6 sessions in order to receive a certificate of completion.

WHO SHOULD REGISTER?

  • UC Merced Students who identify as Womxn/Women

  • Students who are interested in learning leadership theory and exploring their leadership identity. 

  • Students who want to develop key leadership skills such as confidence, empowerment, communication, and empathy.

  • Students who want to reflect on the following questions: "Who am I? What impact may I want to make in this world? How do I want to engage in leadership?" 

  • Students who want to understand the importance of allyship and self-advocacy to reach your leadership potential.

  • Students who want to learn about gender and racial inequities in leadership and how we can overcome them. 

Like "women", womxn refers to females, but it is an attempt to get away from patriarchal language. The spelling stems from a longstanding objection to the word woman as it comes from the word "man". The term, “womxn,” is also used to include all cisgender, transgender, and gender fluid womxn, and to acknowledge the intersectionality of gender.
